I can't be the only one who has sat either empty minded, confused, or over thinking while being asked to set an intention at the beginning of class. Honestly, there was a time that it gave me great aniexity because, I couldn't think of one fast enough before the teacher moved on and began the series. I thought to myself, am I doing this right? Am I setting the right intention? What does setting an intention for practice even look like? I understood waking up and claiming my day to be a good one, but there had to be more then just wanting to have a good practice. Did I need a group of fancy words to express myself, because at that point, that wasn't happening. So if this sounds at all like you, I got you, I am here teach you what I have learned about setting intentions, and just how powerful a tool it truly is.
Since setting an intention for your day, and for your practice can be an extremely powerful tool that has the ability to truly determine just how your practice and day will go, it is important that we approach doing so with simplicity, and and clear meaning. What we put into the Universe, if for the higher good of all, will be delivered unto us.
“Intentions compressed into words enfold magical power.” ~Deepak Chopra
To set an intention is to activate a part of your receptivity. Beginning the day without setting an intent often feels like heading to a place you have never been before without your GPS.
When setting an intention, one may ask themselves, the following:
What fears am I holding onto that I wish to let go of?
What am I grateful for in my life?
What words would I like to invite into my life, to shape my being?
Is there something in my life that is yearning for my forgiveness?
What matters most to me?

Intention setting is as simple as one word, or a thought, some examples being:
Balance
Love
An open mind
Forgivness
Vulnerability
An open heart
Accepting Change
Flow with ease
Act with courage
Here are 10 Mantras with my interpretation below, that you can use to help set an intention if any of these resonate with you:
1. Peace begins with me.
Within me I find stillness, and compassion, I embrace what is empty, and what is full.
2. I am healthy.
My body is a vessel for my practice, the way I nourish, and care for it reflects my respect for myself, and the blessings of this life time.
3. I am that I am
I am a piece of the infinite universe, the very first particles that it formed are contained within me, I am connected to everything, and all I am apart of everything and all.
4. I am consciousness
My reality is formed from the infinite possibilities of the universe within and around me
5. I am light
Light transfuses me. My glow illuminates. My primordial essence are the light particles of the universe.
6. I am love
Love radiates from within me, by keeping an open heart I can love myself , other beings, and this magnificent planet more easily.
7. The world is within me , I am within the world
I have an unshakeable connection to the world, the entirety of the world resides within my very being. When I participate, I add value and authenticity into what has birthed my ever so infinite soul.
8. I am a verb always changing
Change is in the very nature of consciousness as awareness grows, change is continuous.
9. I flow with ease
Throughout my practice I flow with ease, in which I will apply into my everyday living, off of the mat, I will apply these tools.
10. I am aware
I am present, and observant, I am here both before and after, I move and I am moved, I participate in the universe.
